Sérénade - Musique de chambre pour trio et quintette à cordes
Le Salon de Helen Buchholtz
The project revives and reinterprets the idea of "Salon" (in a broad sense) by focusing on the character of Helen Buchholtz, her family and activities, her entourage, her time, her home town of Esch-sur-Alzette and above all her music.
Helen Buchholtz (1877 - 1953), born in Esch-Alzette, came from an Esch family. Her father, Daniel Buchholtz, was the founder of the Buchholtz hardware store (1853) and the Buchholtz brewery (1894). Helen Buchholtz lived successively in Esch-Alzette, Wiesbaden (D) and Luxembourg City. Throughout her life she composed music and left 138 works for various formations. Because of the repertoire of her compositions (Lieder, Ballades, Sonatas for piano, ...) she holds a special place in the history of Luxembourg music and especially that of Esch-Alzette. She was also co-owner of the Buchholtz brewery.
In the REMIX spirit of Esch2022, the project aims to shed light on the life and work of Helen Buchholtz while contextualising this reality in relation to other countries, other times or other social environments.
"Le Salon de Helen Buchholtz" will offer a wide range of events, including concerts, readings, lectures, exhibitions, screenings, educational workshops, master classes, participatory activities, artists' residencies and a gastronomic offer.
